Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national Standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International
Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Esch member
body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations,
governmental and non-governmental, in Iiaison with ISO, also take patt in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all
matters of electrotechnical standardization.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to
the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires
approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
International Standard ISO 6345 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 8,
Shipbuilding and marine structures, Sub-Committee SC 8, Windows and side
scuttles.
Annex A forms an integral part of this International Standard. Annex B is for infor-
ma tion only.

L ’ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une federation mondiale

des Normes internationales est en general confiee aux comites techniques de I ’ISO.

Introduction
In the preparation of this vocabulary, care has been taken to standardize only suitable
terms and definitions, and not to perpetuate unsuitable terms because of their use in
the past. The figures given against the respective terms are simplified or symbolic
representations given in Order to facilitate the comprehension. They serve only as
examples and do not tonfine the construction.
Where more than one term was usual for the relevant definition, only a Single term has
been Chosen, in general the most common one, to the advantage of unambiguous
standardization.
