With the development of technologies, the protective systems used in production and other activities where it is necessary to use it are being improved. Since an increasing number of schemes and processes are globalized and unified, therefore, the normative legal acts regulating them are also created at the international level. One of the most important documents of this type are international standards. Since the use of protective equipment is primarily responsible for the safety of employees and the safety of human lives, the number of standards in this area is quite extensive. Today we will introduce you to the main documents in this area.

Hearing protectors - General requirements - Part 1: Earmuffs

SIST EN 352-1:2021

As in any document in international standards, there are generalized requirements and norms that must be adhered to in the area to which the document belongs. One such example for the field of protective equipment is SIST EN 352-1: 2021.

This European Standard specifies requirements on construction, design, performance, marking and user information for earplugs. In particular, it specifies the sound attenuation of the earplugs, measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1.

Ergonomic aspects are addressed by taking into account, within the requirements, the interaction between the wearer, the device and where possible the working environment in which the device is likely to be used (see Annex ZA and EN 458).

Since this standard is generic, we recommend that you have it available in case your organization comes into contact with the technologies mentioned in the document.

Hearing protectors - General requirements - Part 2: Earplugs

SIST EN 352-2:2021

Different parts of the same standard may have different standardization vectors. One such example is SIST EN 352-2: 2021.

This standard has a clear structure and a highly specialized focus on the scope of its operation and application. That is why we recommend that you familiarize yourself with its technical characteristics in more detail using the link to our website.

Hearing protectors - General requirements - Part 3: Earmuffs attached to head protection and/or face protection devices

SIST EN 352-3:2021

Recently, face protection devices such as masks have gained popularity in standardization, but nevertheless there are general requirements for the use of such equipment in the manufacturing industry. One of the standards regulating this category is SIST EN 352-3: 2021.

This European Standard specifies requirements for construction, design, performance, marking and user information for earmuffs attached to head protection and/or face protection devices, hereinafter referred to as ‘mounted earmuffs’.

In particular, it specifies the sound attenuation of mounted earmuffs, measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1.

Because one model of earmuffs designed to be attached to head protection and/or face protection devices can be fitted to a number of other models and sizes, this part of the standard sets out a series of physical and acoustic requirements for earmuffs when fitted to the specified model(s) or size(s) of head protection and/or face protection device. All requirements apply to earmuffs fitted to one of the specified models or sizes of head protection and/or face protection device (the basic combination). An abbreviated set of requirements apply applies to the same model of earmuffs when fitted to the other specified models or sizes of head protection and/or face protection device (the supplementary combinations).

Information shall be given on the range of models of carriers tested with the earmuffs which satisfies this European Standard.

Ergonomic aspects are addressed by taking into account, within the requirements, the interaction between the wearer, the device and, where possible, the working environment in which the device is likely to be used (see Annex ZA and EN 458).

If your business or organization uses protective equipment, we recommend that you think about purchasing a standard that will significantly enhance your technological safety base.

Hearing protectors - Safety requirements - Part 4: Level-dependent earmuffs

SIST EN 352-4:2021

One of the options for using protective equipment is noise reduction devices. Their regulation and standardization is carried out through such documents as SIST EN 352-4: 2021.

This European Standard is applicable to level-dependent earmuffs. It specifies requirements on construction, design, performance, marking and user information related to the inclusion of the level-dependent functionality.

Since this standard has a certain specificity of the industry of application and the presence of a certain number of technical parameters, we recommend that you clarify all possible questions with our team before purchasing it with full confidence.

Hearing protectors - Safety requirements - Part 5: Active noise reduction earmuffs

SIST EN 352-5:2021

The next important part of the above-mentioned standard that regulates the related industry is SIST EN 352-5: 2021.

This European Standard is applicable to active noise reduction (ANR) earmuffs. It specifies requirements on construction, design, performance, marking and user information related to the inclusion of the active noise reduction facility.

At first glance, both parts of this standard, regulating noise suppression processes may seem identical, but nevertheless, the presence of certain parameters and characteristics significantly shows their difference and the importance of taking all parameters into account when choosing the right document.

Hearing protectors - Safety requirements - Part 6: Earmuffs with safety-related audio input

SIST EN 352-6:2021

The issue of safety with the effect of noise on production processes and also on the health of personnel is quite significant, especially in the age of technology use. One of the standards governing this process is SIST EN 352-6: 2021.

This European Standard is applicable to level-dependent earplugs. It specifies requirements on construction, design, performance, marking and user information related to the inclusion of the level-dependent functionality.

The above document has a large number of technical amendments, characteristics, clarifications with which you can familiarize yourself in detail on the iTech website and ask all your questions to our team.

Hearing protectors - Safety requirements - Part 7: Level-dependent earplugs

SIST EN 352-7:2021

Compliance with the rules of protection has always been and will be the key parameters in building the functioning of the entire system. To regulate the use of hearing protectors, a standard has been created such as SIST EN 352-7: 2021.

This European Standard is applicable to level-dependent earplugs. It specifies requirements on construction, design, performance, marking and user information related to the inclusion of the level-dependent functionality.

Detailing the technical parameters is the key to success in selecting the correct document

Since protective equipment is used in completely different areas, therefore, the number of standards used for regulation corresponds to the industry, it should be noted that the use of an incorrect document may entail negative consequences of its use. That is why we strongly recommend contacting a team of professionals in the field of selection of international standards who will not only clearly define the necessary documents for your organization, but also advise the vectors of development in the global market by introducing the correct international regulations. If you want to keep abreast of the latest updates in the field of standardization, stay with the iTech team.
